How to Handle Car Accidents

When it comes to car accidents, everyone can relate to the feeling. The moment after it happens, you feel a sense of shock. Your heart is pounding and you get a pit in your stomach before panic sets in. You can be distraught or angry but in the end, it’s an experience you have to deal with. As a result, some people forget or might not know the best way to handle the situation. To help handle automobile accidents when they occur, Mr. Muffler has put together a handy guide that will hopefully help.

Safety First

You might suffer a little shock after an accident. However, safety is the most important thing for both parties involved. You should immediately check yourself for any injuries. If you are injured, you or another person should call 911 before doing anything else. However, if you are seriously injured, you should remain where you are if it is safe and wait for emergency services. After that you should also check on your passengers (if any) to see if they have any injuries. It’s best to make the 911 call and wait for emergency services in any case.

If you can move safely, you and your passengers should move off the road. However, if your car is causing a hazard and you still can drive, you should pull it over to the side of the road or a parking lot if one is near.

Contact the Authorities and Exchange Information

Depending on the state you live in, calling the police might be mandatory. Although involving the police might cause more anxiety, it can be important for insurance claims. Police officers will compile an accident report and also document the crash sight. It is important to ensure you have all the information that you need by getting the names of the officers and a copy of the documentation. During this time, you should exchange information with the other party.

Parking Lot Accidents

In some cases, you may be the victim of a parking lot accident where the police are not required. Identifying the party and getting their information is the most important. Typically, insurance claims can be directly made to their insurance company, without police intervention (or even contacting your insurance agent). If you cannot get their information. Contact your insurance agent as soon as possible. If it’s your fault then you’ll want to contact your insurance agent.

Car Accident Repairs

Typically, you’ll go to a body shop to get your car repaired. Although in Michigan they would like you to get multiple estimates, that shouldn’t be necessary. Get it fixed where you want. Let your repair shop make the case to the insurance company. If the accident involves mechanical repairs, Mr Muffler is ready to assist as well. Whether you have some front-end damage, exhaust leaks, or something more serious, we can give an estimate. The most important thing is that after an accident, your automobile is safe to drive!
